Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

I hope it wont be too bad for all involved.

Thank goodness for all the good you and the Lions club do, Oz.

the track is now north of Mrs Ps island by about 20 km. they will miss the wind shear in the eye but will sustain 130km/h (80mph) winds and get 6-8 inches of rain.

based on the iTyphoon app, we can expect rain starting late tonight and the storm intensity will peak around 8-10 am tomorrow. Winds will be 60-80km/h (35-50mph). rainfall here will be 2-4" in 24 hours.

they are doing bridge work between here and civilization and one of the temporary bridges was obstructed last week with Queenie. Queenie passed within 30km of us so I think it dumped more rain then Ruby will at or place.

latest update is that the severe winds (<120kph) will only be 120km from center so we are good. despite this Lillian and her kids are staying the night at the school. her baby is just six weeks so I am not arguing with her.

in the egg department. we candled the golf bag eggs. I have 36 viable white bresse, half a doz each of the buff orps and Ameraucana. 66% survived the trip so my hopes are high on getting a blue egg roo, some bigger buffs and a new line of birds for my sex link project.

feta finally looks pregnant along with some of the other girls that freshened early. buck rogers got busy on day one after quarantine. the first doe is about half way through gestation.

Bernie is heading home in a few minutes and will be back Tuesday, a week before the next two pigs are due to farrow. we are all set to welcome new arrivals and sell the three cull gilts. I was planning to put one in the fridge but I don't have enough space. I will just have to buy pork as we need it.

Mozza is doing well following her nose piercing. She will get a metal ring next week. the current iteration is some PVC tubing on a short rope. We will start training her in January.

The kids are having fun on the farm. They are spending their time with me or on the play house. they got to write their initials in concrete today on the area where we are putting the big sink near the piggery.

the construction guys finished the week completing the last of the cinder blocks on the fence. We just have the bamboo fence palings to go and it's complete.

once the fence is finally complete I will have the guys build solid walled three sided quad compost bay structure.

we had another water leak last evening. instead of using a coupling on two pieces of ½" PVC pipe, they used 6" of ¾ black poly pipe jammed over the PVC. our sporadic water pressure that peaks at over 100psi finally won. it did not help that the pipe is laid three inches under ground and it was on the track from the sand and gravel pile to the fence.

added to my things to do are too replace the PVC ball valves with stainless steel. the local plastic ones leak after not using them for a while then turning them.

Good news about the storm.
What a pity I can't get some of my blue eggs over to you.
I am getting 5-6 dozen Araucana eggs a week at the moment.
