It works well for cats also.

I've had cats my whole life, all I have ever ended up with is an angry wet cat.... my boyfriend has one that runs from a squirt bottle, but it doesn't stop her from coming back in 5 minutes and doing the same thing....

Haha, my cats are the same, you can tell them to come off the coffee table, you can shoo them off the coffee table, you can squirt them off the coffee table but when you walk away and come back later, they will be on the coffee table. Sigh...

My boyfriends cat likes to climb doorways and look like a fluffy squirrel... we have graduated to a nerf gun.... works better than the spray bottle at long range.... still doesn't completely stop her, but it is rather satisfying if you actually manage to hit her...

Offering a preemptive apology, and rant warning to those of you with house cats.

This post illustrates why I don't have cats, much less house cats and why (sorry) I don't eat at the homes of my friends who do. I can not stomach the thought of eating a sandwich that was made on the same countertop where litter box paws have walked, and bare cat butts have sat.

The owners say, "MY cat doesn't get on the counters!"

Yeah, right.

No apology needed, my cats are outside cats anyway. I love cats but am more of a dog person, however there is one fatal flaw in your argument, who said I had friends to invite over

Jk though I do see what you mean (and I do actually have friends - hard to believe I know ) I like to think that I keep everything tidy, but I rarely have guests over anyway, I'm not one for much social interaction and most of my friends are now all over the North West of England so when we do meet up we tend to meet for a night out somewhere in the middle. It also helps that most of my friends are also cat people.

I do wipe surfaces before and after making a meal though and I use chopping boards and place mats so it isn't really an issue.

EDIT : I may be an adult but apparently I still can't spell. Oh and I just read Kusanar's post, I am very tempted to try the nerf gun method.
