Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

thats some mighty clean piggies....
pigs are surprisingly clean if given a chance. they alaya poop in the lowesr corner - near a drain. Its only when they have no choice are they "pigs" in the lteral term.

saying that, they get their poop scooped 3 times a day, and the tankal gets pressure washed mornings and evenings, with a weekly bleaching rinse

I understand that... I am also in admiration with the care that has to go in to keeping their quarters in good shape.

I have seen pigs pasture raised here locally... the only time I see em get dirty is when its hot and there is some nice mud to cool off in. What I don't understand is when they are pasture raised .... How in the heck do you keep em in... I only saw them from the freeway Big black boulders walking around doing piggie stuff. Been on the lower road near em and they didn't smell at all.

Oz, have you ever considered trying to laminate together those bamboo strips to form structural beams? It would be an interesting experiment.

Bamboo all by itself is incredibly structurally sound. In compression it compares to steel.

Structural use

Contstruction use as scaffolding

In my opinion a perfect use in a hot damp salty environment...

You know I have seen plans online for a home made cooler... Not freezer but a home made walk in cooler using just a plain old window air conditioner.

My grandma who was born in 1916 says they never had electricity. And they would butcher one pig a year for a family of eight to live on. They had a big wooden box they filled with salt then put the butchered pig in and covered it over the top with salt. Of course they were in Colorado so they did get some natural refrigeration... but salt was the best means of preservation.

Probably not practical at home hunh...
