Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

I am back to using opera mini browser on my phone. its severely limited. that includes the edit feature.

the animals look good. we have chicks galore with all brooders full. I had forgotten how small baby quail are. we have to perform musical coops to find space. I have about half of the brooder birds sold so we should be clearing them soon.

we also sold several roosters so camp adobo will thin out.

there are more than 100 Muscovy duck eggs under broody ducks so the workers have a good supply of protein for the year.

I've got two scovies sitting, on about 15 eggs each. Number 3 has laid 9 eggs, so I expect her to sit soon too. I am going to have a LOT of ducks

our first full day on the farm was great.

I did a walk around early. the place looks so dry.

I had a 90 minute chat with Ariel and Dodong. that was great. we cleared a lot of small questions and solved a few problems.

I also explained I was looking for a new person and not to perceive as threat to their job security, salary structure or benefits. they were still freaked by the idea and are most worried that the person will be "dry hands" or lazy.

about an hour later, the first applicant showed up.

I got a good feeling from him. he is knowledgeable and could look me in the eye.

we should have 2 more applicants show up by Wednesday.

after lunch I sold one of the sows. we then put a new window in the brooder room to increase ventilation.

the kids are very happy to have me home. we has a great pillow fight, lots of hugs and kisses as well as sing a longs.

their grandmother introduced them to the sound of music so we are singing all the songs.

its 527 am. the sun is about to pop up over the mountains to our east. red skies in the morning. hopefully rains today

we had the second applicant interview today. it was interesting. the guy had many skills that impressed me. he has vermiculture, ferments local alternative feeds for pigs and grows vegetables.

the downside is that he already did it and indicated he would continue so the chances of him taking of to care for his own farm or even using our resources for his farm are real.

he also lacks handyman skills.

candidate 1 is still in poll position.
