I just had a call from a head hunter on a job in Alaska. Also one in Hawaii.

Alaska would be fun in summer but.. winter is unimaginable for a tropics loving lad

i have not looked into manila/anchorage flights but the flights from LA or SFO actually give me more time in the Phils than the HNL flights - its all about departure and arrival times

PAL used to fly Manila - Anchorage - Vancouver but dropped the route when the Boeing 777 came into play. Now they do MNL-Vancouver-Toronto or New York

Even though I hated to drive into LAX (always tried to fly out of ONT) you could always go where you wanted with minimal stops. Now that I'm near ABQ, it's so much more limited.

I am a huge fan of direct flights - every time you stop you increase your chance of delays. Changing airlines triples those chances. I love flying out of ONT or SNA on domestic flights but them not being hubs limits direct flights
