Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

VOLCANO WATCH 2015

Quote:
Mt Kanlaon is about 50 miles North East from us. Its the mountain we see from our Lanai.

we are half way between the yellow star and the sharp bend in the road to the left.

If the volcano has a major eruption, we will be safe from large boulders and rocks that spew from a pyroclastic flows. Such a flow is usually very hot, and moves rapidly due to buoyancy provided by the vapors. Pyroclastic flows can extend miles from the volcano, and devastate life and property within their paths. Our real problem will be ash. The wind patterns are changing with the onset of the Amihan or South West monsoon.

Volcanic ash has high levels of Silica and causes silicosis of the lungs.

Lets hope PELE does not get too upset

I posted the bucklings on Facebook at $80-90 each upon weaning just to see if there was interest. We sold one already so I guess there will be no goat curry afterall.

I also am trading Guinea Fowl for a weaner Pure Nubian buck from impeccable dairy production lines. He will be available in March.

I do love to trade

Nice trade! Hope you don't get too much rain from the typhoon.

The other party in the trade is the former owner of our Saanen buck. They have some of the best goat genetics in the country along with the brains to manage a goat herd.

Our 3 way mixed breed bucks are ideal to upgrade local native goats to then cross with the Boers goats so I am pleased that others also recognize it.

We will sell off around $1500 of goats bred on the farm this spring. Thats more money than I have put into the project including feed.
