You could tell him that 6wk old keets are hawk and owl bait... (not to mention bait for fast sneaky ground predators like foxes, ferrel cats, loose dogs etc). If he wants them to be able to go outside (and since he's such a handy guy with the carpenter tools!) have him build them a covered pen attached to their 12'x12' coop where they can stay safe until they are old enough to start free ranging
Plus if they have a covered pen, then the adults can see them, get to know them, but not GET to them.
