Getting white silkies

I just find that to be shocking to say the least. With the amount of PQ and hatchery birds that are out there, someone somewhere has to have some available. I agree that quality stock may be a bit harder to come by, but they are definitely available. The quality stock may be harder this time of year too, because most Silkie breeders have shut down the incubators until after the first of the year.

I was thinking the same thing...

They are hard to find here too. There are blacks everywhere, and very low quaulity whites. I've been offered good money for my white who was a rescue, because one with a poof like mine has is impossible to find here. I also had people offering me money if she ever hatches a roo!? I figured I'd have to give one away.

I think in some places Silkies are just hard to come by at all. I saw someone who could not find a silkie for sale in their entire state just a week or so ago on here.

Wow, I am very surprised to hear that. I know there are breeders pretty much everywhere, although they do not always have stock for sale.

Yeah, I think the issue was probably the time of year... but they said they only searched locally in their state. I don't think they were looking for chicks though, Pullets I think. I can't remember.... it was in the chickens BST area.

I'm not planning on breeding until spring... have one last go at ducks eggs this late... but I won't be doing any chicks right now.

Seriously? Are you having a hard time finding them? Thats strange because White is the most common color in Silkies.....

I was thinking the same thing...

I'm in NC and I just found my first white silkie at the state fair!! Caught the guy going out the door and he sold me ONE girl !!!

I want 1 more white one and 3 Bantams ee's

Yep, all the people around here don't have them.

I should say, one lady, who is on this board, JUST got some white ones. She had a white one before but I didn't like the way it looked.

But she has TONS of other colors.

I had a white roo, but wasn't as poofy as I would have liked.

Fair is in town HOPING they have some nice ones for sale.

Thanks!

I have been looking for silkies too, and I don't think there are any AT ALL in northern Wisconsin.

I have been talking with her and hope to get them here, this coming week or next. I have had quite a few things come up lately that delayed it.
