ghost stories

I have encountered 3 ghosts in my life, each experience very different. I always want to see more, but its been over 10 years now and I have never had any more experiences.

1. I was working in a large pet store and it was a very quiet Monday. It was time for my lunch break and a a co worker came to take over from me at the cash register. The store was empty of customers. I was walking to the staff room at the back of the store when I walked past a old lady looking at pet food. I took a few steps past her, then decided I better ask if she needed any help. I turned around and there was no one there! I quickly ran from one side of the store to the other looking straight down each isle. No one!. I went to my friend on the cash register desk and asked if the old lady left the store. He told me no one left of came in! I could remember everything so clearly about her...her clothes, shoes, hair and gold glasses. Then I remembered she seemed not to be standing looking at the pet food, but rather at an angle and also not moving. Perhaps she was an old customer who died and just wanted to keep shopping!

2 I had just moved into my new house when I kept hearing the faint voice of a little girl. At first I thought it was on the TV, or the neighbours kids. But I kept hearing in more often, so faint and only lasting a few seconds. One I was alone on my day off. I heard the voice and quickly turned off the TV and just for fun asked out loud... "sorry I did not hear what did you say". Then to my horror and shock the girls voice was louder and right next to my ear!!! I was freaked out and just sat on the sofa frozen. I got the courage to ask out loud again.. but this time no reply.

After that I started seeing the girl around my house playing. Always just out of my main line of sight. I would hear the voice and see her, but every time turned my eyes to look at her the voice and her image vanished. At first I only saw her about once a week, but as time went on she got less shy and I was seeing her every 2 or 3 days. She was always playing some game. She looked about 5 years old with long black hair and a little dress and shoes.

I just got used to it. like it was just my imagination and a bit of fun. But then it got more serious and a bit frightening. Once I was in the shower and I heard her faint voice and saw her out the corner of my eye near where the bath towels were handing on the other side of the room. I looked to see her, expecting her to vanish as usual. But she did not! She floated quickly over to the shower door and I could see her right outside the shower, She looked into my eyes and where her eyes should have been they were blurred like a fuzzy photo. I was really frightened and looked away. When I looked back she was gone.

I only saw her once after that. I was in bed, late Sunday morning. Sun coming in from the window. I heard her faint whispering voice and turned my head to the side of the bed. She was right next to me......her face in front of mine..eyes still the same, she was grinning and laughing like she was playing a hide and seek game - friendly not nasty. But I was frightened . I closed my eyes and I heard her giggling and again she vanished. I was upset as being so close to her and I was angry too. I said firmly "that was not nice - its not a nice game you scared me".

I feel sorry I did that. After that I never saw or heard her again. I am sure she was playing and it took all those months for her to trust me I suppose.

3. Finally a BAD experience. I could not sleep as my partner was snoring really loud. I decided to go into the spare room. I got in the bed and it was so cold (winter) so I went under the blankets. I was nearly asleep when I heard the bedroom door opening. We just had a thick new carpet and the door was difficult to open. I could hear it making a noise over the carpet. I thought it was my partner. I stayed under the covers. Then I heard slow heavy footsteps coming towards the bed on the soft carpet. Suddenly I felt freezing cold and my hairs on my arms all stood on end. I was frozen in fear. The footsteps stopped right next to the bed. Then silence. After what seemed like ages the footsteps walked away and the door slowly closed. I was still frightened, but I forced myself to just jump up out of the bed and go to see who it was. I rushed down the hall and went into the main bedroom. My partner was still fast asleep and snoring!

That was a very frightening feeling I got in that room. I know the ghost was something very bad. I never felt like that before. I never slept in that room again!

MsBagawkbagawk, thank you for the good idea about checking the names on the gravestones. There is a small (maybe 20 stones) cemetery on my property, and that would be an interesting experiment. Sadly, most of the stones are plain fieldstones with no engraving.

My favorite 'person' out there is a tall obelisk with only the name Lucy engraved on it.

This is a different cemetery from the one I mentioned earlier.

Awwww, I hate to see cemeteries in disrepair, or unmarked stones. It makes me so sad to think that these people's entire lives may be forgotten. I've found a lot of children, and have been able to trace a few of their families back to their great-great grandparents, but that is hard to find.

I actually met a man who was trying to fix up our poor cemetery, and has been doing an excellent job. That would be great if you could preserve that little bit of history, before it is lost forever.

i would be trying to find out the history on those places

Well at the time, the ghost girl and the scary one were both in the house I was living in. I was not an old house - only 10 year or so. Perhaps there could have been a property on the land before us. If anything bad had happened in that actual house I am sure my neighbours or locals would have know about it and told us. Now I have moved to a different country and never seen any ghosts in my new place.

you never know what was in the place of your property unless you research it

it could of had a cemetery on it that was moved, murders, ect

We have a house near us that is super haunted. It's a bed and breakfast and my mom used to work there. She saw a little girl staring at her once. It turns out that she had appendicitis, they did surgery on the dining room table and she died. I think they used a kitchen knife. It was Christmas Eve. spoooooky!

i have a true ghost story but it is not very scary. here we go.

one day after school i went home and my dad was not home yet from work so i just plopped myself on the couch and trund on the t.v . then after a few minuts of watching t.v it just stopped then my front dore flung open and i saw a socking wet teenager, ( eaven though it was not raining at all.) walk in and start petting my dog, after a second she saw me and started to scowl at me then she disipeard.

This last week my great-grandma passed away. The day she died I was having horrible headaches.

So I was thinking about her today, and my memories, stuff that I associated with her. And I remembered this little wooden game on her coffee table from when I was four. She moved a lot so I can't remember where the house was. Anyways, I was supposed to be watching my favorite show, The Land Before Time. Well, it was over and I was bored. I didn't want to go into the kitchen because they were talking about boring stuff (I think that they were discussing her will). I looked around and saw a little wooden game. I remembered that she had shown it to me and told me I could play with it. I scrambled off the couch and was about to grab it. I remember a shadow fell of a man showed up over the table. The room was dark but I remember it clearly. It was a young man in a 30s or 40s era cap. He stopped, then walked on and disappeared. I never looked behind me until the shadow left, and no one was there. I don't think there was a man in the house at the time. My great-grandma's husband had died of a heart attack a few years before. I never thought much of it, until now. I haven't told anyone either.
