Giant Broad Breasted Turkeys?????

I used 2 of the Reynolds heavy duty roasting pans for 25lb birds. I cut them and pieced them together to make a double sized roaster. We took 2 of those oven shelf liners and used them to stregthen the pan. Then we used heavy duty aluminum foil and made a big blanket sheet and rolled it aound the outside. Then we did the same for the inside. We padded it well and made sure it was strong foil. My nearly 50lb bird filled it to capacity.

My oven rack is at is lowest, then I put a rack liner on it then slid in 1 rack over it and put the turkey in. The oven is full of turkey. Literally.

When I pull it out to baste the oven rack bows a bit in the middle. Ooops!

MP - Don't forget to upload finished photos! I'm especially interested in seeing that oven full of turkey, since I just can't wrap my brains around it

If you start 4pm and cook 12 hours, how do you have it warm at dinner time?

Miss P. You could try using a small length of 2 x 4 placed on the oven door to hold that rack from bending. Probally too late now but an idea for next year.

Nice job coming up with the pan idea I will have to remember that one.

Okay, here are the results of Mr. 43 pounds! He only took five hours to cook! Talk about a wonderful bird, he was awesome!

Hope everyone had a great meal!

Oh, he looks yummy! I'm so glad he was up on a rack, I thought he was resting on the bottom of the pan, that makes a big difference.

I'm going to invest in one of those enormous electric roasters for next year. The kind you can put on the table. Then I can roast the bird in that, and have the oven free for pies and whatnot. I always say I'm going to do some of it the day before, but I never do. Aways find something else to do.

We eat in the evening, mine's in the oven. It's 7PM here, we'll eat around 8. I'm taking a short break before I start potatoes and make cranberry sauce. (I make my own sauce, it tastes better than canned, and it's really easy. Takes about 10 minutes.)

We didn't raise turkeys this year, but plan to again next year.

Photos tomorrow.

My turkey came out at 11:30am. It was wrapped and transported 2 hours away. It was still too hot to touch when unwrapped at my in-laws. I was perfect temp at dinner time.

My turkey was awesome! Juicey and super tender!
