GIANT growth under hen's wing.

She is still doing really well. Loves being a chicken :) Has a HUGE appetite though! Does anyone know what the average weight of a Plymouth Rock hen is? Because Gem is pretty big. Her growth is not growing from what I can tell anyways. Thanks for your concern :)

Gem is doing pretty good. Although the growth is HUGE! I also noticed some new growths growing on her as well. I'll have to post some pics.

Oh my. My chicken has the same thing but on the outside of her wing. It's almost the size of a baseball. I have tried to drain it but there is only blood coming out no puss. I removed some dried blood and a chunk of her wing came out and left a hole but no puss. She is eating and drinking but it is super swollen and hot. The heat has cooled off and I have being spraying with Vetericyn but it doesn't seem to be improving...

Infection in chickens is different than our infections... their 'pus' hardens into a cheesy, hard whitish/yellowish cores... try making a warm epsom salt compress and hold that on the area for a while... then use Vetericyn and some antibiotic ointment...

Unfortunately, that's not really an option :( should I just leave it alone? Or do something myself?
I’d love to know what you did with this hen?
Same situation with my white fluffy hen under her wing.
She molted at the beginning of summer and then I noticed it shortly after the new feathers came in and believe me, it is just as revolting.
From the looks of it, I expected she would be in great discomfort, and I was telling my husband he needed to put her down. He was reluctant to do it because she doesn’t act like it affects her at all.
Skipping ahead it is now almost September and she still has this disgusting thing hanging on her. She has an active bothered by it at all.
I guess our theory is we ignore it until she either dies or it just hangs on her. I don’t think there’s a vet around that I could drag a chicken to and even if I did what did they do? They’re not gonna operate on her and I wouldn’t spend the money on that.
How did yours turn out?

@Copper3300 could you perhaps start a new thread of your own in the emergency forum, and post pictures along with copying and pasting the paragraph? It would get more looks since this thread is 10 years old. There are skin cancers and lymphomas that affect chickens, as well as ingrown feather cysts, and abscessed wounds. Sometimes seeing a picture can give a clue if it is skin cancer since it looks a certain way. Here is where to post a new thread:
