At this point, I've just accepted that Little Fire's personality lives up to his name even if his body doesn't. He is one of my first BLRWs and was my first rooster. But there are plenty more roosters now, and he's coming up on 3 years old. He's not the most human-friendly roo, but he's never aggressive either, and it makes him just about a perfect rooster. The thing that baffles me is the fact that other than our Brahmas(who are penned up and never really around LF), LF is literally the biggest rooster on our farm. He protects his hens very well, except that he really only has like 2 hens of his own who he's protective of. There's plenty of girls around for him to choose from, but he has these 2 and occasionally he tries for a few more(it never really works). And up until quite recently, he would constantly let our head honcho beat the crap out of him... it wasn't pretty, although he's got so many feathers that he never really showed any damage. He finally started fighting back, and he easily can beat the other roosters, he just continually decides not to... Has anyone else had this happen with their big roosters? Or wyandottes in particular?
Thanks,
Madie.

It's not the size of the rooster in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the rooster. It's not that unusual for a bantam rooster to be dominant over a full sized rooster. Size doesn't necessarily give an advantage, the other rooster might be quicker, more agile. But the main part is which one wants it worse.

I'm not sure what's going on with your flock, the ages of the other boys and all that. Often fighting older roosters happens when cockerels are becoming roosters. As long as no one is getting hurt I don't worry about it, but when you have several males things can happen. You do need to pay attention and be ready to act if it becomes necessary.

But as far as your basic question, Has anyone else had this happen with their big roosters? Or wyandottes in particular? yes, this can happen with any roosters of any breeds.
