Hey, Gina, thanks for asking! He's doing okay. I haven't let the flock free range for a few days because we had to take our back perimeter fence down for the guys logging our back 3 acres. Suede doesn't go back in that area, but Ike's group wanders far and wide and if Gideon got back there, no telling where he'd end up or if something would snatch him.
He's been grabbing whatever hen he could. They scream, Isaac comes running, Gideon yells and runs off, rinse and repeat, LOL. He made the mistake of grabbing Gypsy, my 5 yr old black Ameraucana. She shook loose, and since they were underneath a small roosting ladder propped against a fence, he couldn't get away fast enough and got a bit of a thrashing. But, his teenage hormones won't allow him to stop trying.
He's filling out more every day, becoming quite a handsome rooster. His crow is improving-it's deeper toned than his dad's. I'll have to try for updated pics, but he's camera shy.
He is hassled by the older hens, of course, and sometimes, will roost next to old crippled Amanda. If he ducks his head and holds still, she lets him. If he raises up, she thunks him a good one on the noggin. He's even tried to hide under her wing from the other hens, but it throws her off balance on the roost bar, her leg being awkward from the hip joint, so I've had to grab him and make him settle down and leave poor old Mandy alone. So, he's growing up, but still shows some babyish traits.
He is not in the least aggressive, but won't let you approach him when he's out, which is still an issue with us. I want a calm rooster, not a spazz. Other than that, he's doing quite well in the flock.
