Gifting a Chick

Hi, I am thinking about getting my friend a chick for her birthday this year. Neither of us have ever raised chicks before but have had a fair amount of experience with adult chickens. I've read a couple forums on keeping house chickens, so if I were to go ahead with this, what breed would be recommended and any tips for first time chicken owners?

You don't really want to do a single chick...minimum of three.

Plus, gifts of animals are best made with the input of the recipient since they will be responsible for the life of care of that animal. A better idea is to make a "gift certificate" redeemable for the chicks of her choice...then she can share in the fun of picking out the chicks too!
