I think the attraction to abusive people, starts with passion. Some women like emotional men. It's possible men became the emotionally numb beings we are (largely) because evolution doesn't want us to be fiery tempered. What's a woman going to do wiht a man who has wild ups and downs that can culminate in phsical violence.
