Hey we have a question about ducks and chickens raising together, can u give us some input... I was thinking about wintering these Blue part brahma and some duckilin together in a coop turned big brooder, but the medicated feed is an issue.... please see thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...nd-duck-mixed-flock-their-different-foods-how THANKS OODLES

Sorry I didn't see it earlier. Medicated food actually isn't a issue anymore due to they changed ingredients. I agree with the post about Flock Raiser. It is a miracle food for any mixed flock. Just remember ducklings need more Niacin.

U know that 2nd pallet coop we are building for these now 4 week old part brahma chicks? well I am gonna winter them in that like a brooder with a heat lamp SAFETLY installed, I did this in the spring with my newbees..... I found someone with choc scovy ducklins now about 6 days old and 6 bucks a pc..... I really want choc scovy but not in the house for winter!!! Thoughts??? I know NOTTA about ducks yet alone ducklins!

Yes you will. You can buy it in any drug store in the vitamin sections. Just DO NOT get the slow release ones. They do nothing for ducks. That is a EXCELLENT deal. I've never seen average colored scovies go for less that 7 a piece as day olds. You need to breed them to send me eggs

I raise baby ducks all the time. I don't give them extra anything, so long as I use waterfowl or gamebird starter, there are never any problems.

I use cleaned milk jugs for waterers, as they are very messy. Just cut 1.5" x 2" wholes just high enough that the babies can get their heads in for drinks. this keeps them from soaking their brooder floor. It will still get wet, but not near so badly as with open containers. I also brood in boxes, and change them every day or two, depending on mess and stinch. LOL

Get them, sounds like a deal.

OK you two have me super excited!! what will I need EXACTLY when I go get them.... (I am waiting for him to tell me how many for sure he has)

I keep them in the house in a brooder at first correct? with temps at what?

Marty do u have pic of that waterer?

How long before I could move them out with the chicken brooder with these 10 part brahma?

I just found a sick hen, My Fluffy girl, daddo and kids have been doing my job for the past two weeks, so today I went to spend time with them and realized Fluffy wasnt acting right and when I picked her up she is thin and extremely light, I think they werent let her eat since I moved all the feed and water into the coop for the winter, so I brought her in the lower level in a dog kennel and gave her some karo/ACV water along with some yogurt and chick starter.and she is eating it like no tomorrow. her butt has some wet runs too, so not sure what is going on : ( see her comb all dried up, she is a youngin (April) girl Blue Cochin
