Girls vs Girls

Cochin, if you can't provide good warm sheltor, it would be best if you just ordered goslings (or hatched them, I can talk you through) and raised them until fall, and sold them as pairs and etc. Then, you don't have to warm them and pay to feed extras. You don't seem to keep many birds for over the winter.

I'll have to convince my mom is all. Just I know they'd have to either have dog boxes (like sled dog boxes if you know what I'm sayin') to use, or use the goat house. Either way is fine since the goats use the dog house, but I know you'd have to use a lot of bedding which would be a prob.

We're actually gonna keep like 5 this winter outta our flock of 11, which is good since we have goats too. Oh and we found someone to butcher our turkey

Yes it is. You'll be there soon Amiga!
Besides Sebbies most Geese have enough down to keep them fairly insulated.
Well, yes, but not enough for -50 outside. ((no offense sweet amiga)). I'm worried that if Cochin does not have a shut up building for them when its bloody cold, they will have issue. Even Canadian geese ditch in the winter. Cochin is EVEN FARTHER NORTH! My geese would be seriously PO'd about that. I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying that Cochin lives in extremes. Even her chickens die in the cold sometimes.

Cochin, please tell me, what EXACTLY are your goose housing arrangements going to be?

Sled dog houses, or a goat house. W/ straw or hay. Never alfalfa (not sure if it mattered). Their bedding will be the stuff the goats reject. Sorry if I made it sound like they would be sleeping outside on the snow.... At the very least they would sleep in a dog crate fill with hay (although I doubt it).

OH and BTW Marty last winter was VERY weird - It was, say -60 one month then 20 above the next. Really weird, really extreme. Typically it only gets down to -30 at the least.

I don't like heat, which is why I live here

Oh and Marty the chicken that died died of cold Shock. Not nescasirraliy of the fact it ws -50 out. I mean, that played a factor, but going from a 10 or sligtly higher degree coop to - anything would've killed her I think.

Easy. Its called don't go outside except for school and taking care of animals.

But then again when its above -20 we still go outside to do sutff, but if its -15 or colder depending on what we're doing its usually not that fun :/

Oh last winter (2 winters ago I mean) it was -20 and lower for lik 2 weeks, so when it was 20 outside everyone was SO hot and SO hapy we only went outside with our snowpants on to keep the snow out of our pants, but otherwise everyone was wearing a T-shirt or sweater.

LOL. Well everyone knows your a nut, you think 141 is low

Truthfully you get used to it. Like, it was 30 this morning, and I was FREEZING, but come spring when it gets 30 out I'l be jumping on the trampoline w/ no coat, no snowpants, just boots to keep the snow off my feet! You just have to adjust, trust me

Well, anything below freezing is tough on chickens, since they are natural to warm climates. I think geese in anything below -15 need to be closed in to help keep them warm, period.

I found my dads old deed to his Alaska property a week ago. It was in Ancorage. No idea what their weather is.

As you can see some of Alaska even gets into zone 7, which is warmer than I get her in Kansas. (the aluten islands I think the parts to the south are called) Probobly not Cochins part though. I'm just amazed that their are parts of Alaska as warm as some of Oklahoma!
