Excited to be here. new member, first time chicken owner of speckled sussex and dominique chicks, 6 total. Have been reading posts for some time gathering useful info along the way. Have decided to go with Grounds coffee bedding for my crew. Ordered some from Rural King and when I went to pick it up, visited the new chicks and found they were using Grounds in their brooders. One thing I learned from another chicken person is that not all coffee grounds are equal. The Grounds brand is cold brewed for 12 hours and triple filtered to remove all caffeine and any toxic substance. So household coffee grounds are great for the flower bed but not for chickens. This person has used Grounds for almost a year and sees no downside but his coops are cleaner, smell better and very easy to maintain. He is now using it in his brooder also. Hope this helps and I will continue to update my success with this product. i live in the Deep South where Winters are not terribly harsh and Summers are hot. Wish me luck!
Glad you joined.
