Hello, I am new to raising chicks. What evidence is there that plain yogurt is good for coccidia or that yogurt provides anything more than a nutricious snack? What is the purpose of vinegar and how much does one give to chicks?

Thanks,

I started giving ACV and yogurt to my chickies because these very intelligent people on here say it helps them in many ways. I did not question it because they have more experience with chickens than I did. Having now been thru the chick stage and teen stage with (knock on wood) no problems, I would say it works, it just works. I can say from my own experience that ACV in the water each time I give them water cuts down on the slimeiness of the water. I only have to give them water every three days now instead of every day (5 gal bucket waterer),

I've been making my own yogurt since seeing MP's thread on it. People will think you're magic when you tell them that you warm milk and leave it on the counter overnight... I mean "make your own yogurt". It's really very funny to see their faces when you tell them.

Plus it's just plain old delicious!

My chooks used to get more yogurt when they were babies than the do now. That's partly due to the economic situation at our house b/c DBF is not employed, and partyl because now I eat "their" yogurt.

Look how cute Gwen was when she was little (and covered in yogurt!).

I just found 3 containers of yogert in the freezer. Is there any reason why I can't feed them cherry yogurt? I know you all talk about plain but then you say you can feed them fruit.

You can feed it to them. It just isn't a good idea to feed them the yogurt and fruit very often. Those mixes often have a lot of sugar in them. If you plan to give them yogurt regularly then it is best to have the plain on hand.
