Give her chicks?

If she leaves the eggs they will just be going in the bin. As harsh as it sounds. My incubator cooked my last eggs and I’m not buying another as a good one is too expensive for me.

If she does hatch them and keeps them for longer than six weeks they’ll be sexed, she’ll keep one pullet and the rest will be sold.

No egg from her today but today is the last time I can buy eggs to be shipped.

I have done the whole broody thing before, just haven’t had one who is undecided. This is her 2nd time testing the waters.

Thank you all for your advice! I’ll wait until tomorrow night to move her. If she breaks it’s OK, £10 isn’t a huge deal.

one thing I found when had an incubator frying my hatches was laying them down helped a lot with that along with the mal positioned chicks even in the nightmare of a little giant, that one I could not put the humidity above 60 or it freaked out the digital stuff, Also doesn't say where your from but elevation can effect things too, as all incubator instructions are for sea level

I am at 5K elevation and is quite different took me a while to find what worked and was ridgerunner and a few others that helped me figure out issues to where I was getting really good results instead of giving up

I’ve always had good hatch rates on eggs that were fertile so I bought some Orpington eggs, 12 days later the eggs are boiled and dead. Had this with a few of my previous hatched but some chicks survived. I think it’s just the incubator dying, it’s a Janoel 12 - cheap chinese incubator.

Thanks for the advice though. I’ll keep that in mind if I do buy another bator.

Can you post a link to that incubator here? I was given one, but it doesnt work. 3 eggs out 36 on my last hatch and I've only got 2 developing at last candle out of my current 36. I need a different one. I bought a really good one years ago, but gave it away when I had to get out of chickening for a while. Looking at the prices of them now I realized I scored one heck of a deal back then.

Yes, wait until you have nesting material.

When I have a broody I wait until she's been in the nest most the day and all night for 2-3 days...along with those other signs I posted.

Then I put her in the broody enclosure with fake eggs in the floor nest, she won't like being moved, but if she is truly good and broody she will settle onto the new nest within a half a day.
Then I give her fresh fertile eggs and mark the calendar.

I like them separated by wire from the flock, it's just easier all around.
No having to mark eggs and remove any additions daily, no taking up a laying nest, no going back to the wrong nest after the daily constitutional.

it doesn't sound harsh, just practical. :idunno I ran out and bought an incubator because my hen stopped being broody a day before the eggs arrived, but I wanted to add to my flock so it made sense. Only one hatched, so I had to buy some brooder mates for her. The success of one egg assured me that my incubator worked fine. It also indicates that shipped eggs don't always have a great success rate. :( But, I would do it again, given the same circumstances. And I am just in love with the one that hatched just yesterday!!!:love

The thing with shipped eggs is first of all they need to rest and check as sometimes the air cell will detach and are more prone to air cells that are more of a saddle looking one, also egg elevation at laying and hatching can cause issues because of the differences in porous and density I believe was what I was told, it is best to hatch eggs laid near the same elevation
