Give me everything you know about bob whites! Incubation and all!!

Bobwhite are naturally very territorial. They may not attack coturnix if they have a large aviary space, but keeping them together is never recommended. They will definitely attack other bobwhite if not kept in pairs during the breeding season. From what I’ve read, female bobs pick their mate and can be choosy.

That's coo so the males can't be rapists now? my Coturnix sure is. I am moving them to a 5x10 A-frame coop once old enough. I ordered the 25 eggs, to arrive next week. I have 8 Coturnix. can they not live in the coop with them? and if all hatch, whats male to female ratio for all of them? 5males 20 females in general? could I do that?

Someone on here bought cot chicks I believe and received a Bob with them, and they grew up together, when bob got big I think he attacked the cots. 5x10 from what I’ve read is no where near large enough for that amount of bobs. Many people keep them the bare minimum to eat once they’re large enough, or move them to large flight aviaries and then sell them for hunting etc. Imo you would have been far better off with more cots.

I also have a 5x4 coop I could attach it to. Would that work better?

If I hatched 10 males 10 females ( I doubt I will) Would that be better? I can also purchase some more sexed ones if neded.

Coop is actually 60 sq ft. I went into coturnix with nothing known about them. I just came home with a few day olds. I now sell and incubate weekly. I have time to learn bout them still I have incubation down.

Obviously you are going to do what you want, but it’s my understanding that bobs should be kept in pairs or same sex groups in a ton of space. if you have 2 pairs you need like 50+ sq feet. Also, just because you have 10 and 10 doesn’t mean they will pair up happily, there will be popular mates that others fight over. Your gentle cots will also be targets. No matter what we all say to you, you just come back saying the same things. So do what you want, but 20 bobs and 6 cots in 60 sq feet will be a blood bath. I started quail many months before you, I keep a lot of birds, I research constantly, and I still feel I learn new things every day. You seem so eager to get new birds that you’ve decided you’re already an expert on the previous ones. I’m done commenting to this post as it seems like it’s more of a hey I’m doing this post, than a please give me info post. I hope you beat the odds, but don’t be surprised if the worst happens. If you want bobs my suggestion is to get them their own enclosure, and keep just a couple happy pairs.

My coturnix have their own coop. I just asked if I could raise them in the same one. That doesn't mean I am.
