Give me pictures of your chickens and I'll try to sex them

On Barred Rocks...A is likely a pullet and B may be a rooster...but wait it out as they can be trickier to sex.

Signs of Barred Rock sexing are:

Girls, small, tight head dot, black wash on front of legs, overall darker appearance
Males, more diffuse head dot, no black wash down legs, will grow out overall more light due to double barring

By 4 weeks, most Barred Rock males will have substantial comb growth started, and will be clearly lighter due to the double barring.

However, Barred Rock females have been known to be precocious with their comb growth, especially those that lay early.

It is best to wait it out with Rocks until it becomes very obvious because some males are slow maturing and some females fast maturing, which can confuse things.

On those that are confusing, I also take a flash light out at about 8 to 10 weeks to see if there are shiny hackles and saddle feathers coming in. I can often pick up those at night in the flash off the flash light. The girls will have more a more even luster to their feathers, while male hackles and pre-saddles will have a flash to them.

I would love some help with my Barred Rocks babies...Thank you in advance!

With barred rocks you can have relative certainty on sex at chicks.

Males: larger, splotchy headspot, lighter silvery/grayish color rather than black, no or little black down leg fronts

Females: headspot is more defined and smaller, down is very black, legs usually have dark wash down the front.
These, taken together, will give you the sex about 90% of the time. The other 10% aren't as clear and can fool you.

Exactly 3 weeks old today. I'm hoping both are female barred rocks. :) Thoughts? They definitely have different tail feathers but I'm hoping each bird develops differently and this isn't a tell tail sign of a cockerel. :S

I can definitely see a comb developing on the top picture, I would say that's a cockerel, the second picture I'm not so sure about.....

Here's another picture of the two of them. You can see the dark wash down the fronts of their legs, both are losing their fuzz feathers but just the one on the left has the fluffy tail feathers.

Now, looking at front view, I would say both cockerels....

Oh chicken boy...that is NOT what I wanted to hear! lol. I picked them up directly from the hatchery, watched them "choose" even. How could they be wrong! ;)

So here's my next question, if these are in fact cockerels, I'd like to get two more. Will the 3 week olds pick on the babies even though they're only a few weeks apart?
