Give me some ideas for chicken tricks

I think teachin her to dance might be a bit on the complicated side. And I dont have a piano!

Any other ideas? I just taught Fussy to jump on my shoulder before she goes to bed by accident by giving her a goodie before bed, ONE TIME, after she jumped up there. Now she has been trying it every night. Ooooooboy!

My chickens can all jump through a hola hoop. I'm trying to get them trained to just jump through when I call their specific name, but it's not going to well. Instead when I come into the coop with the hoop they whole flock usually justs rushs to jump through the hoop to get their treat. It was easy enough to teach the birds. I just bought a cheap hola hoop from a garage sale and then stood the hoop up with my hands, offering bread in the other side. The chickens stepped through easily enough, and as they got better at it, I raised the length. The chicks learn the trick from mom, and I sometimes see them jump up onto the hoop for a second and then flutter through. My rooster Peter knows to jump up onto a stool when I tap the stool with my cane. I am planning to show him in FFA, and so its great for me to teach him how to pose and stand on the stool. Its also a great way to check him over for injuries.

How bout teaching Lili to fetch....... that would be kinda cute - you could use a specific item to fetch and when brought back to you - a nice treat!

Or you could teach her to roll a ball around, or perhaps a little track, with something to climb over, under - ring a bell....

Thanks for that visual, what a hoot. I can just imagine all your chickens pushin to jump thru that hoop so they can get their goodie. lol

Right now I am trying to teach Lily to jump, but she will only jump if she sees I have a goodie in my fingers. Man, can that girl leap. My others can leap about 12 inches, but Lily can leap about 2 feet from straight standing position, its impressive to see. But she is a piglet, anything for food. The teaching is not going well, I cant even teach her to stay out of the living room, and the other three already know that. Every time Lily goes in there, little Dash stands back and watches, its really funny. Dash learned not to go in there just by watching Lily get in trouble.

I would start out with a hula hoop placed firmly on the ground. Place it between yourself and the chickens, one hand on top of it holding it down and balanced. When your chickens approach, feed them goodies when they step through the hoop to you. It took me about two weeks of doing this EVERY SINGLE day until the birds got the idea and began to go through the hoop and then ask for the treat. It really is an easy trick, you just need some patience. I highly recommend that you try it! It's so simple that the birds can remember how to complete it, but it's also so random that at parties or social gatherings (birthdays or B.B.Q's) it's a huge hit. I've considered charging people and traveling around with my chickens (after I train them a LOT more) It would be easy money, and if they knew a little more tricks people would probably pay! Good luck, and keep me updated!
