As you can see my white OEG hen is flithy, she decided to make her nest under an old car... Has anyone ever given a chicken a bath? What do you use? dish soap? shampoo? She needs help.

funny you mention this. I am no pro, but we just bathed our Cornish X this week... we used dish soap...

check it out.. some of it is also on Youtube.

Dish soap is highly caustic... it will rob their feathers of their natural oils and they will fray... I'd try some type of shampoo first, maybe a kind for pets

I'd use pet shampoo before baby shampoo. It's actually considered too harsh for small pets and young puppies or kittens so I wouldn't use it on a bird. Haven't tried washing a bird but normally for such situations I use a horse shampoo like rio vista. So far it works well on guinea pigs, baby hamsters, gerbils, sick kittens, and my dog aside from the horses. Much milder than any human shampoo or even most kitten and puppy shampoos.

I have to agree with SpottedCrow on the BABY SHAMPOO

I have used Johnsons, No More Tears baby shampoo for 8 years while showing birds.

It's hypoallergenic, & does NOT contain alcohol.

It's PH balanced, which guarantees that it is not HARSH on sensitive skin.

My Avian Vet & many old timers in the poultry show circuit reccomend it over any Pet Shampoo's or dish detergent.

Baby shampoo is tested on animals in the first place. It has to be certified SAFE to use on babies.
