Giving a hen penicillin...good idea/bad idea, how much?

Well I learned tonight one of my BSL's is a bit off, comb going pale, beak open a little.. she got ill last year and we put the whole flock on oral antibiotics...
We will do the same but my friend who cares for them wanted to know if giving her penicillin would work and how much?

I don't generally treat birds with antibiotics unless they obviously have an infection. What would you be treating for? Antibiotics carry their own risks, so unless the bird were showing some concrete signs of ailing I wouldn't give them.

That is ok, she went peacefully in her sleep, she was a very old hen.. it was my barnevelder, never got an egg from her, but she was a pretty hen.
