Crowing
My mother just got three more bantams to replace the three in her flock that were lost, (not recently, all 9 chickens in my breed/Sebright post are still alive). Specifically we were looking for ones small enough to hang out with Chip, who is smaller than the rest and was friends with a hen his size who died to a freak bee-sting accident, and ones that were like that hen in generally because she was beautiful. But enough back-story, on to my question.
These pullets are younger than the current flock, (not yet their full size and still peeping, though they look like they've lost their down and their adult feathers have grown in already). So we were wondering whether or not we should feed them what the rest of the flock is eating. My mother is all out of chick feed since our current ones haven't been chicks for quite a while. I think the big thing with Chick Feed is it has extra protein and other things essential to chick developement. I know kitten food is an exceptable protein supplement for adult chickens, (if given in moderate amounts), so should she give this to the chicks along with the food the other bantams are eating? Or does she have to pick up some Chick Starter Feed? They're currently being fed the layer pellets, not the complete mix with the birdseed and cracked corn. Photos of the food packages involved and a couple pics of chicks attatched.
