As i stand here prepping to cook mr rooster, who we hatched from 4h, i'm feeling in awe of how much disrespect i give to having food anytime in any amount that we choose.
Food has become seperate from the lives of the animals who become it, and as silly as it sounds i'm feeling more pride....
I've selected veggies from my garden and herbs from the deck....
Oven is on, hens are on the deck, baby at my feet, train table in use already, hubby upstairs while the cat and dog wait ceremoniously near the table.
And i cry... Just a little as if to say thank you and I' m sorry.
Life is good.

When you start with a garden, you don't consider the tomato (fruit) gave itself for your spaghetti sauce! Or the grapes in the jelly were once 'alive'!

When you start with a chick, watch it grow and mature and then ethically take a life for the table for your own sustenance - yeah, it does give you a reason to pause and offer thanksgiving.

Since we started raising 'meat' birds, our children have a much deeper understanding of why we say grace before a meal. And why leftovers are good!

Life is beautiful, all of it.
