My teacher and I have been getting attacked by what used to be the sweetest chicken in the flock. She’s thinking about getting rid of her because she doesn’t like being attacked and doesnt want the new classes getting attacked trying to get their grade. Before summers over i’m sure she’ll be gone :(. We both don’t know the reason but all the chickens have no butt feathers and the one that has them has short tail feathers, so after a while I figured that chickens top of the pecking order, especially with the bigger waddle. Theyve all had a form of bumble foot and i’m still removing gravel to reduce it from happening again. Were assuming the infection caused the aggression, but one day i witnessed one of the other chickens jump on her and watched her steer away from that one the rest of the day. The chicken getting bullied whose aggressive has the least feathers i could say; no butt or chest, lost some on the neck, etc. bottom line, and i hope that was enough info, is there any way we can help florence cease the aggression towards us so we can keep her? My teacher runs and my friend has put her foot in her face and that backed her off, didn’t work for me.. and what i do doesn’t work much, i get pecked so i’ll grab her n ruffle her butt and she’ll fluff up because i want her to submit, i think thats how that works.. but anyways any info will help, i can’t imagine losing a chicken because she’s scared of the others, plus wed have 3 then :( thanks for reading tho!

What does their coop/run look like (photos would help)? Can you get measurements? Do you have any photos of the birds?
Funny i knew someone would ask this, yikes i’ll have to check when i can find the time to go back, maybe Friday. I can post a pic but its not fully in shot. Guesstimating, id say its maybe a 3x3 or 4x4 inside the coop with a space under the same size of course, but its 3 or 4 x maybe 6 to account for their ramp. I let them out to roam when i’m there. With the pic of them sleeping, you can see the lighter chicken in the back had short tail feathers, thats who i think is head of the flock. The pic with the leggy in it is of the aggressive one, i don’t seem to have many pics.. and who i assume is the head of the flock has head trauma, twists her head around sometimes. The bright pic with the grass is of the agressive one as well.

What is the flock's diet consisting of? A deficiency or an excess of some nutrient can result in feather eating and other unwanted behaviors. :pop
They get purina premium poultry feed, 8 ounces each chicken, size of a solo cup.. they get fruits when we have some to give. I give them a share of my breakfast biscuits and fruit cups from school, of course only the fresh fruit ones like honeydew and not in any sweetener. I catch cockroaches and bugs for them too if they don’t get them themselves, as well as red tomatoes. As for the feather problem my teacher also assumes it MAY be molting..

Do they always have food available to them?

I can’t really say yes since its summer and i’m not there to confirm, but she has groups go give them food for the summer and sometimes shell go herself. When i care during school i always make sure kids do a good job, but if they’re not having food when they should they spill a lot of it out in the coop so i guess the kind of always have food available? I’ve tried wetting it because i heard it can reduce waste and they like it but the ants in the coop also like it and kids don’t take it out so we stopped that wonderful idea >_>
