Hello all, Im new to chicken raisin, got my first group of ladies in March, brooded em to almost adulthood now.

I have 7 Barred Rocks. Some of the most beautiful ladies you will ever see. I could not be more proud of them.

I live in the Briargate area of Colorado Springs. Luckily no HOA, and my city does allow for 10 ladies in a backyard, no boys. I got mine cause a neighbor two houses up has 9 reds and I loved going up and visiting his ladies. Took the plunge and got me my own.

Originally I had 14, handed off 4 to a friend who had 6, and lost three to an unfortunate burned teflon pan incident before I got em out of my house.

Now my ladies are outside in the house I am building for them, and they rule the backyard every evening when I get home. I think they are happy, the love to be petted, and will come jump on my lap if I sit somewhere out there. Sometime in the next few weeks, I should hear the happy cluck of a lady proud of her egg laying skills. Eggs are simply an added benefit of them for me. They clear my yard of any crittle small enough for them to eat, they are great at eating my weeds (I let the thistle go this year for them to munch on), and they are incredibly relaxing for me to sit out and watch in the evening. Add to all that, the scratching my compost, and the eating of just about any scraps I care to throw out for em.

Ill post up some pictures as soon as I can figure out the forum, and hope to be active with questions, stories and hopefully some good advice.

Again, thank you for the forum, happy chickening.

~Daniel.

Very nice to meet you Daniel. You sure found a great place to live, that allows 10 hens. Chicken watching is very relaxing, on here it is called "Chicken TV." No reruns, new shows every day, no cable or satellite bills.

Hi I also live in Briagate and we only have 2 hens which is more than sufficient for us, they started laying in July of this year, 2 eggs a day like clockwork, just love them. If u don't mind can u give me ur street address, I am just curious if it is your chicks that I have been hearing. I live on Candleflower Thanks

Greetings, Croston, and :welcome. Happy you joined us. I noticed the person to whom you responded, sappercs, joined over a year ago but has only posted twice. They may no longer be an active member. You could send them a private message, however, and if their email address is the same they should get that. Good luck to you!

Hi Croston, unfortunately I have moved out of my house and into an apartment. I do miss my ladies more then anything. Before I moved I found them a great home up on Distinctive Drive near high Plains Elementary. I have checked with the new owners a couple times and the ladies are doing great.

I lived on Lear Drive just off Mirage. A good friend of mine, the guy that got me into having chickens is still there. I know at least 4 homes in Briargate near my old house that has chickens.

I'm so glad you got into it and got you a few ladies for yourself. Take good care of them and they will continue to be days of enjoyment and of course, make you smile every breakfast.

Take care, and perhaps I might ask you someday to come meet your ladies.

~DanielJ.
