Hi all - I am about to become a new chicken mom. I live in the suburbs of Maryland and my 9-year old son built a very strong case for chicken ownership. Now we're all on board! We'll get up to 5 hens, and have a great coop and run that we ordered from a family-run company in Tx. I am excited to welcome our new chick pets and be the best family we can be for them 
(1) New to chickens!!
(2) We have no chickens at the moment, but will get 5 (our county limit)
(3) We definitely hope to get Silkies, Easter Eggers, etc.. there are so many good breeds, it's hard to choose!
(4) Our favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens -they seem like a pretty cool animal- we can learn a lot about the animal, relationships, health, etc.. and they seem smart and amazing. The eggs will be nice, but not our primary reason for getting chickens.
(5) Other hobbies include gardening, sewing, swimming, boxing, biking, skiing, you name it, we'll try it!
(6) Our family has no other pets - this is our first. Lots of pandemic dogs in the neighborhood, though.
(7) I googled looking for a community of background chicken families and found BYC - thanks you all for being here!
