(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had chickens as a teen (about 14/15). I had a rooster named Squeak and a hen named Pip (pip squeak). They were Plymouth rocks and a hawk took my hen and dogs killed my rooster. But it's been 15 years since.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I just purchase 8 1 1/2 year old hens for eggs.
(3) What breeds do you have? I have a hybrid of Rhode Island Reds and Leghorns.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My recent research on chickens.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Sewing, crafting, interior decorating (love to professionally).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have four kids (12, 11, 9, 2)with my wonderful husband. We have two indoor cats. We did have rats but they died and we're taking a break from have rats continuously for about 6 years. I'm a stay at home mom and I homeschool 2 of my kiddos. We live on about an acre of land (just shy of an acre) and have always wanted a homestead, but I always wanted to live at the ocean too. Would love to have both, at the same time. I'm a child of God and try to live for Him second by second.
Ever since having chickens when I was a teen, I knew I always wanted more and when we started to have a larger family and started going through a lot of eggs, wanted to have chickens. Plus, with homeschooling, it's a great family project.
