(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- I first got my first chicken in 2019. We took her from a family friend because she was injured and he didn’t want to deal with it then we raised up a few little chicks so she wouldn’t be lonely and the rest is history. Each year we add more girls to our flock but even though I’ve been raising chickens for years I feel like I learn something new every day.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- We have ten total.
(3) What breeds do you have?
-We have 2 ISA browns and 2 Ameraucana all week olds. Then outside we have 1RIR, 2 Barred rocks, 1 Sapphire gem, and 2 Easter eggers.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- I love watching them grow and seeing each of their different personalities develop. Some are escape artists, some almost stupidly brave, others exceptionally sweet, and somehow they all love going where they they don’t belong like inside my house or the shed.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
-I‘m a big reader I have been amassing a rather large book collection.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
-At the moment I’m in the middle of a gap year with lots of free time for my pets including my dog, Bella, guinea pig, Einstein, parakeets, Topaz and Meringue, and of course the chickens. At home its just my mom and me but I have a large extended family that I’m very close with.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
-I google chicken questions in the past and BYC threads have come up with similar questions that are answered in so much detail by so many lovely knowledgeable people and I notice someone had asked a question that I could answer so here we are.
