Well kind folks, I don't guess I'll be experiencing the joys of hatching this time around. All the eggs are duds. I guess what I was seeing the other day I thought were chicks was just the yolk.
I went down to check the temps and they had jumped to 102 so I worked at cooling it down. I figured while I was doing that I'd candle the eggs again, this time using a better technique one of you showed me in a picture earlier. Sorry, I forgot to go back and see who you are before I posted. But I promise to try to do better at getting to know everybody. These past 14 days--well, its all a blur.
Anyway, this time around I could see that something wasn't right. So I cracked one. Nothing. All the rest looked just like it on the inside, so I ended up cracking them all. I don't think they ever lived past the day I knocked them off the table. Isn't that a heck of a note? I was up all night last night working on the temps too. That stupid LG just wouldn't settle down, and yes, I gave it plenty of time between adjustments. Not that it matters really. But I blew a fan on it, turned on the AC, turned off the AC, plugged the vents, unplugged the vents, just everything one can do keeping it within range for hours. I had to go to the doctor today and when I got back it was okay so I took a nap. Got up and it was 102. Gee whiz, I can really go on and on, can't I?
Well, on the brighter side I can quit worrying about them now. I sure am worn out.
And I have learned a lot too. Pretty expensive lesson though.
Listen, you guys and gals: Thank you all so much for all the help you gave me. I can't express enough how much I appreciate it. For those of you who have LG incubators and like them, I am very glad you do, but don't ever expect me to have anything good to say about them at all. Ever!
HA! But that doesn't mean I don't like YOU.
I was wanting to get a Rcom 20, but I can't swing it right now. What I am going to do is build my own incubators. I have 2 mini fridges which should make dandy little machines once I figure out the right stuff to put in them. Once those babies are done and tested the temps won't move a fraction of a degree even if I set it outside in a blizzard! The LG egg turner fits inside just perfect, and since that seems to work fine, I'll keep it. But the LG incubator is going back to the store.
Tractor Supply said they would take it back which is nice of them.
Sorry I'm such a long winded sucker. Thanks again, everyone. I'll be bothering you all again in the near future once my hatching machines are made and I get some more eggs. LuvMyBLR, I was really looking forward to being your hatching buddy.
