Hey, I forgot to tell you all yesterday, I saw one of the chicks move, but I'm not sure if it was moving on its own or if it might just have floated around a little bit as I turned the egg.

I'm headed out to check the temperature on the LG. Stay tuned for the next episode of "As The Egg Turns!"

Oh awesome! That's the day after my hatch day! We can be "buddies"! haha Nope I bet it was moving! I've thought that too, but then I would stop and be really still and it moves! Then I would turn it to see if it would move then. They usually don't

yay for babies!

Oh and yes please keep us updated!

Well kind folks, I don't guess I'll be experiencing the joys of hatching this time around. All the eggs are duds. I guess what I was seeing the other day I thought were chicks was just the yolk.

I went down to check the temps and they had jumped to 102 so I worked at cooling it down. I figured while I was doing that I'd candle the eggs again, this time using a better technique one of you showed me in a picture earlier. Sorry, I forgot to go back and see who you are before I posted. But I promise to try to do better at getting to know everybody. These past 14 days--well, its all a blur.

Anyway, this time around I could see that something wasn't right. So I cracked one. Nothing. All the rest looked just like it on the inside, so I ended up cracking them all. I don't think they ever lived past the day I knocked them off the table. Isn't that a heck of a note? I was up all night last night working on the temps too. That stupid LG just wouldn't settle down, and yes, I gave it plenty of time between adjustments. Not that it matters really. But I blew a fan on it, turned on the AC, turned off the AC, plugged the vents, unplugged the vents, just everything one can do keeping it within range for hours. I had to go to the doctor today and when I got back it was okay so I took a nap. Got up and it was 102. Gee whiz, I can really go on and on, can't I?

Well, on the brighter side I can quit worrying about them now. I sure am worn out.

And I have learned a lot too. Pretty expensive lesson though.

Listen, you guys and gals: Thank you all so much for all the help you gave me. I can't express enough how much I appreciate it. For those of you who have LG incubators and like them, I am very glad you do, but don't ever expect me to have anything good to say about them at all. Ever!

HA! But that doesn't mean I don't like YOU.

I was wanting to get a Rcom 20, but I can't swing it right now. What I am going to do is build my own incubators. I have 2 mini fridges which should make dandy little machines once I figure out the right stuff to put in them. Once those babies are done and tested the temps won't move a fraction of a degree even if I set it outside in a blizzard! The LG egg turner fits inside just perfect, and since that seems to work fine, I'll keep it. But the LG incubator is going back to the store. Tractor Supply said they would take it back which is nice of them.

Sorry I'm such a long winded sucker. Thanks again, everyone. I'll be bothering you all again in the near future once my hatching machines are made and I get some more eggs. LuvMyBLR, I was really looking forward to being your hatching buddy.

Will be watching for your next hatch. My own last one of the year should be done this week, it has been a rough ride this year with shipped eggs and I need a little break. Still love the genesis, though.

Ok,Orange Ribbon....we will all be anticipating your updates on building your own bators. We are planning on doing it too sometime in the future.Maybe we could use some of the ideas you come up with...so keep us posted

Oh please let me know when you are hatching again! I'll be watching this section for you too! I'm sorry it didn't work out, but you definitely need a break! Have fun building your own, and happy future hatching!

So sorry about the eggs. Yup, been there!
So, might I make a suggestion? When you get your next bator going, whatever it is going to be, do a test batch of eggs first. Get some from a neighbor or ask around on here, heck, I would send you some if you just wanted to pitch in for postage. Test a batch and see how it goes before you spend a lot of money on special eggs. that way, if they don't turn out, you aren't out a lot of money. Then you sell them on Craigslist if you don't like them, and hatch out your selected breeds.
Personally, my hatch rate on my own eggs fresh from the hens butt, I am at nearly 100% hatch rate. On shipped, the best I have gotten so far is about 50%.
You are definitely one of us, if you have decided to build your own bator, that is dedication or addiction, you pick

Good luck and...
Y'all come back now! ya hear?

HEE HEE, HEE HAW HAW HEE HEE, HEE HAW HAW HEE HEE, HEE HAW HAW HAW!!!!

Thanks to you who have posted so far. It is good to hear from you. I feel like part of the family now.

When I get my Orange Ribbon Incubator going I'll be sure to post some pictures. What place is an orange ribbon by the way? HA!

The chickens I have now will be old enough to lay eggs in about a month. Don't know if I can wait that long though! Of course, I understand that it takes awhile for the hens to get adjusted to laying good eggs, and the roosters have to get some romance experience. But if I do buy some eggs to be shipped, I will make sure the incubators work good at holding temperature before I buy. Part of my problem was getting the horse before the cart, well, the egg before the incubator actually. I just got too excited too fast I reckon. I'm always doing crazy stuff like that. Always got to learn by hard knocks.

Well, even though it might be a bit before I get to hatching again I'm sure we can all get into something. I'll be keeping up with what you are doing and learning from you too. Probably even chime in every little bit and aggravate you some more.
