could you show me what you're looking for in a chick? Pictures would be great. Young chicks and then when they start to feather out. Do you know that it'll look the way it should when it grows up by the pattern of its down?

You cant judge a chick until they are mature to see how they turn out

So, you can't tell at all by the chicks' down whether it will be more to standard in its coloration? For instance I have two chicks who are almost entirely black except for their heads that have a small bit of golden on them. Their first feathers are coming in and they are almost entirely black as well. I had another GLW that had much more gold on it, and it's first feathers came in with more gold. I assumed it would grow to have more traditional gold laced coloration. Can I assume that as the Black chicks grow they will get more gold coloration?

I had one hatch and had a solid black chest I wasn't happy about that to find out she molted in her lacings as you can see

Thanks for giving me some hope that they'll actually look like GLW's!

Do you breed them for showing? I got my two chicks from a local feed store so I'm sure they're poor quality. Does the lacing show up even in hatchery quality chicks? I'm having trouble finding what to expect with them.

Also, how long does it take for them to feather out? I've noticed that there are the slowest growing and feathering of all of my chickens. The slow-growing part was expected, but I expected them to have more feathers since I got them on the 12th. They really only have their wing feathers. GLW, EE, partridge rocks, and rangers.

Actually my hen in the pic is only 75% wyandotte and 25% red sex link lol but bred her mother whos half sexlink to a blrw roo and got the hen above her lacing are better then her mothers as most hatchery wyandottes only have 1 copy of lacings and it takes 8 weeks to be fully feathered and usually males feather slower then hens I feathered sexed mine as day olds and her mom and her both feathered sexed as hens and actually turned out hens and i don't show as to many diseases float at those things but gonna breed my hen above to a lav roo and hopefully get splits

How do you sex them as day olds for GLW? Mine are feathering very slowly. Do you think this one is a Roo?
