We got this Golden a few days ago. I've never had a chick with a personality like this one. She follows us around and jumps on our feet. Wants to be held continually. Our other chickens avoid us unless we have treats.

I know exactly how that is, @sean320 . My own GLW is the sweetest thing in the world, and always has been ever since chickhood. In fact, there's nothing she loves more than sitting in my lap and receiving some much-deserved petting. Just yesterday, I picked her up and she stretched her neck out over my shoulder in a relaxing position. The other two Wyandottes (a SLW and a BLRW) aren't as friendly as Kiowa, so she's truly one of a kind!

Now I'm really jealous! I share 6 GLW with my mother-in-law and not a single one is a lap chicken! They are social and will come see us, always looking for treats. But they don't want touched and they don't want held, and being the crazy animal person I am this is very disappointing to me! I am looking forward to receiving 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Barred Rocks, and 1 Black Australorp chicks later this week though so hopefully one (or more) of those girls will be my lap chicken. I can barely contain my excitement at getting new chicks!

I LOVE Barred Rocks. My two are some of the most ornery, personable, and cuddly girls in our flock. Hopefully yours will turn out the same way and become your first loveable chickens!

@Alexandra33 I have heard that Barred Rocks are a fun and affectionate breed. I'm really looking forward to getting to know them! Yours are gorgeous! Is that the fluffy butt of a Buff Orpington behind your Barred Rocks?

Yes, that is my Buff girl, and I also have a Black Australorp. Rodan (the BO) is pretty docile and easy to handle, but not especially the type to approach you for attention. Addy (Black Australorp) is definitely not as friendly as I had expected, judging by all the rave reviews. The Barred Rocks are without a doubt my favorite breed out of the first brood of chickens. Despite this, though, they are all good chooks who are loved, and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
