GMO free?...anybody feed there's?

So as long as I try to stay away from gmo's and soy, there should be an improvement in taste?

No, that is not the case. The improvement in perceived taste is usually due to the increase in carotenoids in the yolk due to consumption of greens when free ranging.

Simply feeding non-gmo or soy free will not magically change the flavor of the eggs.

This "Organic" movement certainly is effective at separating money from folks.

It costs me $24.99 for 40 lbs

I buy ground feed that works out to $8.75 for 40 lbs. Then I supplement with fish meal and eggs. That might bump it up to around $10.00 for 40 lbs. Maybe you can find an alternative that wouldn't cost so much.

Well soy free is a good place to start. Granted soy is high in protein, it's not good for a chickens health. It can cause leg problems, I've heard. It's also believed to cause health complications in humans if they eat meat or eggs from chickens that are fed soy. Besides, <40% protein isn't necessary for egg layers. Calcium and vitamins are more important nutrients when it comes to egg laying. I definitely recommend finding an affordable GMO free organic feed. Which part of the country are you in?

At the co op I go to, no. They only carry that one brand of organic and non gmo. Maybe at costco they have a cheaper alternative but for now $25 is fine with me sice I can free range my small flock of 4 hens, 40 lbs lasts about a month. There is cheaper feed that isn't organic and does contain GMO's, but my personal feelings about this lead to my inclination to stick with the organic. Plus I am an advocate for local economy, and Rogue brand is the only local feed they carry at the co op here.

That's good. Glad you like it.

Costco carries chicken feed? Can I take my chicken in and get a hot dog and he have a bag of scratch?

I see. I do plan on the having a pretty good sized run, and plan on feeding them leftover greens, so I should be ok with the non-gmo and the large run.

I'm in middle Tn now. I'm sure I can order some from the TSC here. They have some on their site, but don't have any in the actual store.
