Was wondering if ALL types of gnats are dangerous/deadly to chickens or just certain types? Same question for flies? It's been cool and rainy here, but I know once it warms they'll be swarming...ugh. The thought alone stresses me out!

Yes, however, I noticed there are different kinds? It was overwhelming and there was no one to help at the store. Is there a brand or type you would suggest? Also, do you put it on the chickens or just around the coop and run?

Spraying pesticides around is not likely to help.
A fan is the best defense, blowing on the roost should keep many flying pests away.
Keeping poop cleaned up will reduce flies from laying eggs.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

:welcome :frow I use permethrin and thoroughly spray inside my coops. Sometimes the flies drive me crazy especially when I'm hot and sweaty, they seem to love me. Since I spray the flies have practically disappeared. I don't spray on a regular basis but will spray once a week for 3/4 weeks then stop. I don't spray again until the flies come back then I repeat and stop. The temperature outside here today was 97 according to my weather station in my house. The tower is about halfway between my house and barn and mostly in the sun. I get my permethrin at TSC. They carry the permethrin dust, premixed spray bottles and the concentrate. Good luck...

Thank you! I didn't raise chickens last year but heard so many stories of people around my area who lost their whole flock to gnats! I know how they bit and bothered me when working or just sitting outside. We have a herd of cattle across the road and a creek that runs through our property so I want to be prepared if the need arises.
