Gnats in the coop....Need a remedy.

It's been wet here too. Every thing is all mucky and smelly. It seems like the chicken feed sprouts as soon as it hit the ground...it's been a pain keeping the litter dry, and free of mold. I think sticky traps might help for now, but it's still not going to solve the problem as long as they have somewhere moist to breed.

I discovered this by accident. You know the Master Cleanse Diet lemonade drink? It didn't work for me as a weight loss strategy but it turns out to be a very effective gnat killer especially when concentrated.

Mix 2 parts lemon juice to 1 part maple syrup. Put the resulting sticky, disgusting mess in a place accessible to gnats. Keep it moist. The little so-and-sos can't resist the smell of the sugar, so they fly in and get trapped.

The best part is that if the chickens go berzerk and eat the whole thing, gnats and all, it's no big deal.
