Go to bed earlier girls

Mine always start marching in around 7:30 - 8:00. Usually they are on the roost by 8:30. I open the coop door between 6:30 & 7:00 in the am.

They go to bed when I am ready to close up. I got out shake a little scratch grains and they come flying in like a pack of wild dogs. I close up, tell them good evening and back to the house. They learn quick.

I call my saying chick chick chick which I have since I hatched them and have some really good treat they love oats rolled quaker oats or toast with butter and sugar on it.They always come running for that treat and eat out of my hand then I close up the door whenever which is about 9 or 9;30

On work nights we are in bed by 9. Well WE used to be! Hubby goes and I put toothpicks in my eyelids to stay awake to put the girls to bed!

They are up until about 10pm now. I did notice today that when I turn the sprinkler on that they go in. What I want to know is why when it is raining snowing or hailing do they stand outside and when the sprinkler is on they hide!

Glad you posted this. I was thinking my girls were just being little brats by not coming to me around 6, but maybe this summer/late sunsets is the deal? The problem for me is the coyotes move in at dusk.

hmmm.... so they come running to the treats during the day, but at night we are still wrangling and catching them and locking them up
it was a rough month for preditors here- so I am not willing to take any more chances-
I am hoping they get the idea and will start to head over on their own earlier- it has not been too long yet that they have lived here, so I will be patient yet
