goat due date? sooner or later?(pics included)

Thanks. She is a FF if that makes a difference on the udder. She has been losing mucus for about a week. That doesn't seem to be a very good clue. If she was bred by Sept 6 which is possible, but we have no idea, she would be due right about now. We don't want to lock her in a stall prematurely, but also don't want her to kid anywhere else!

Later...udder doesn't look near ready yet.

And, um, yeah...SHAVE THAT UDDER!

I have to ask...

What is the purpose of shaving the udder? Is it for just for milk goats or should I do the same with my meat goats?

What is the purpose of shaving the udder?

The biggest reason at this point is so that the person can get a better view of the udder and be able to see it filling with milk. That helps the owner get a better idea of when the doe is due to freshen.

Another reason is that kidding is messy, having a shaved rear end and udder helps keep the doe cleaner during/after birth.

You dont really need to shave the udder with meat and fibre goats, unless it will bother you if it gets blood and muck on it.

You can still watch it fill while its hairy, the kids can find it hairy, trust me if they can find an udder in 7 inches of mohair they can find it on a fuzzy meat goat.

Is this what you meant the udder should look like? She is panting, pawing and at times looking normal. Are we hours away? It is a beautiful 62 degrees this afternoon. Of course I have to go teach my 3 hour GED class in just 2 hours. I hope I don't miss it! It is ok to tell me it won't be today because my husband picked today as the birthdate!
