We have a pygmy doe and two Nigerian/Boer does. Started off with 4x4 field fencing and t-posts. They figured out how to get under the fence, and they would get their head caught because of horns. We then switched to 5ft 2x4 welded wire and wooded posts. That worked well for the pygmy, but the Nigerians figured out if they hooked their back foot on one of the sections, they could get enough leverage to hop over the fence. We have finally ended up with 6ft 2x4 welded wire with wooden posts cemented into the ground. We also weaved metal wire throughout the top and bottom of the fence so they cannot stretch it out. this has worked well for us and we got a good deal on the fencing.
Ours also "free range" on days we are home during the spring and summer. We put up a makeshift barrier fence to keep them from coming into the front yard. The back is all wooded so they pretty much will stay back there.
