I got a few chicks and would like to give them goat gel as a preventative for wry neck. I never had chicks or adults with it, but I'd like to give the silkies some, just in case? TIA

Huh... how's that supposed to work? What is goat gel?

I raised and bred Silkies for several years and out of hundreds only saw wry neck once. Keep nutrition balanced and don't feed excess treats. I personally NEVER used "layer" feed which has less protein and more calcium. Unmedicated chick starter (NOT Manna Pro brand due to low protein content), or Purina flock raiser with oyster shell on the side once laying begins.

A good supplement if you want to give one would be poultry Nutri Drench or Rooster Booster brand "Poultry Cell".

Good luck wit them cuties! :fl

I feed all Flock feed and oyster shell free choice for everyone. I supplement their water with ND. I start my chicks only on non medicated nutrena chick starter with probiotics. I also give bene bac paste to babies. I never had silkies, but was told that silkies needed extra care as they're more sensitive than other breeds. I have sizzles. Just never had silkies. Goat gel is selenium and vitamin e paste that I have "just in case". I never had wry neck in any of my birds, but it's better to be prepared than to not have what I maybe need :)
