Goat housing and dog housing together?

watchdodps, I was told a long time ago "Never alpha roll a dog unless you are prepared for him to roll you"

Even the Monks of New Skete, who brought the alpha roll to the forefront of dog training, have stepped back and said that it's not appropriate.

OP:
Submission/alpha rolling as most people see in dogs/wolves is a VOLUNTARY act by the submissive dog. So, a dog that you are able to roll doesn't need it. A dog that needs it isn't going to let you do it. Think of it this way: if the dog is truly being dominant and acting aggressively and wanting to fight, why would you want to put your face down there? Or any other body part for that matter?

I re-read my post, and I didnt mean to save the alpha roll for serious infractions, I meant save serious corrections for serious infarctions. I agree, as I stated in the beginning of my post, the alpha roll is NEVER a good idea. It's just stupid. You are totally correct about the rolling to be a voluntary act by the submissive dog.

Another reason force based methods are particularly problematic for LGDs - they are what we call a "defensive dog" they are wired NOT to back down and to escalate their aggression as the threat increases. If they backed down in the face of a threat, they would be useless guardians. That means that we must find better, more intelligent ways to get our message across to these dogs.

Trust is everything for an LGD. If your dog trusts you, you will know no greater dedication from a dog.

I just re-read MY post. I was actually just agreeing with you.

lol The joys of on-line communication, right?
