Even the Monks of New Skete, who brought the alpha roll to the forefront of dog training, have stepped back and said that it's not appropriate.

Submission/alpha rolling as most people see in dogs/wolves is a VOLUNTARY act by the submissive dog. So, a dog that you are able to roll doesn't need it. A dog that needs it isn't going to let you do it. Think of it this way: if the dog is truly being dominant and acting aggressively and wanting to fight, why would you want to put your face down there? Or any other body part for that matter?
