Hello everyone,
I was hoping to get some goat advice... I have a goat that is pregnant with her first kid. I noticed she had some mucus coming out the other day. Now her utters are huge and have milk coming out of them, but no baby has been born anywere that I can see. I am worried because the other goats have been butting into her stomach. I am worried the baby may have died or something and she just didnt give birth because of that?? Because why would she have milk if there is no baby yet?? I tried to feel her belly for the baby and I think I feel one in there, but did not feel any movement.
any advice is helpful!
thanks

First of all, milk may come in some days before the kid is born. Shortly before kidding, maybe a day or so, the kids drop and the flanks sink in and appear hollow. The tail bone loosens. Some people feel for ligaments, but I never figured that out. One of the first signs of labor is a string of mucous. She will often try to go off by herself. As labor progresses she will get restless, get up and lay down, and paw the ground.

Yes, her sides have sunk in on her, but she looks so skinny to me. My other goats are pregnant and huge! My concern is that maybe another goat butted her in the belly and maybe the baby died inside. Will she still deliver if the baby has died? or maybe she is just pregnant with one. I was concerned because she has never had a kid before, and her milk bags have been full for about 4 days now. still no baby yet today. This is day 4 with milk in bags, and also her mucus came out about 4 days ago.

She will deliver the kid whether it is alive or not. She has to. Try standing behind the doe and clasp your hands together under her belly just in front of the udder. Now push up sharply. You should be able to feel the kids as they come back down.

Thanks for the information. I am checking on her daily. Still no baby...I think i feel one inside. I think she may only have one baby inside because she doesnt even look pregnant. Except for her milk sack.
