goat question about their droppings

No..please read my first post. They dont have the runs. SOmeone just mentioned that it was close to that because of the dog poo dropping

I did read it. Softened stool is a precurser to the runs. It still can be an indication that something is off in the rumen, even if it isn't running down their legs.

I'd cut out the grain and give some probios. Then gradually re-introduce grain. Do you give baking soda?

When mine get the upset stomachs and act like that , I give them some plain yogurt.

It always seems to help. Nothing in the yogurt to hurt them if they are pregnant either.

You can't just change a goat's feed like that. If you run out, better to just skip a feeding while you go to the feedstore than to substitute.

Please don't feed goats corn. You're asking for bloat, acidosis...or worse. (this is why sweet feed isn't recommended for goats by many people)

As a couple other posters have said, dog poo logs are just a heartbeat away from full blown scours. If they were here they'd be getting ProBios and lots of hay.

Yup, Ivermec is safe for pregnant does.

I was just going to ask if they were getting hay? hay helps alot and if by chance I am running low in feed they get lots of hay...hay is better than a change in feed. I dont give corn as its like candy to children...empty calories. Some feed if and some dont but I try not to feed it to goats.
I would get some cattle wormer and give it orally and its 1cc per 22# of goat. Its cheaper in thelong run and better when you do it yourself and vets charge alot for their meds and this way you can worm them and then in 10 days worm again especially if htey are new. I also take baking soda out for mine just in case there is a upset tummy out there. When I get a new goat I worm then again in 10 days and then again in 10 days to break the worm cycle. when they kid I worm the day of kidding and get them again in 10 days. Stress from moving or kidding or anything in genral can cause a worm outbreak. Just because you dont see worms on a fecal dont mean there isnt any. In winter you wont see the eggs is what you see in fecals the adult worms are in there sucking the blood from your goats. Sounds like its time to worm...Good luck

ok. The guy that had the goats before me. Only feed them whole corn ...Plus hay. They had dog poo then. When i gave them sweet feed and barley and oats with minerals and yeast. Plus lots of hay. With in 3 days their poo was normal to me. Then i ran out of sweet feed.I still gave them the same other gain.Except i gave small amount of crack corn. Maybe that was the difference....How much should you feed grains for a small goat.(pygmy). What grains. Yes i do have baking soda. Should put some in their grains. ?

Pregnant, not pregnant, lactating?

Dry animals (esp pygmies) don't need grain at all. Pygmies are prone to excessive weight gain.

Well. I dont agree with that. They do need grains. JUst not as much. THey are still young and growing. I have read lots ....There isnt a site saying no.

i dont feed my goats grains...unless there are grains in there pellet goat feed....should i be??? they get dumor goat feed, for all stages of a goats life....plus 24/7 access to hay...

Maybe i am getting this wrong. But to me sweet feed is grain. Here the sweet feed has pellets and grains and corn. I just ad barley and oats with it. They might not need the barley and oats. Is that what you are talking about? So if you dont want to feed sweet feed because of the corn in it. What grains and how much should i feed them.?
