goat question about their droppings

Ok. You asked for opinions. I gave mine, I have a few years (around 14) of experience raising goats. I'm not saying you have listen. Just telling you what I have seen.

Redhen: Yes, pelleted goat feed has grain in it.

We use what I would call "sweet feed" b/c it has molassas in it. But it's a custom mix developed by a nutritionist specifically for ruminant digestion.

We need to know more about your goats (age, size, sex, preggo, lactating, etc) to give a feed recommendation. It varies greatly, there is no one "right" answer.

We feed a custom mix, but I would call it sweet feed if I had to put a name on it. It's corn, oats, barley, soymeal, molassas, dehy, salt and minerals. A well balanced mix is fine if your goats are used to it. Your pelleted feed is fine. Strait corn is a bad idea. Sweet feed if your goats don't need it is a bad idea.

ksacres.I do apperciate your reply. There is vitiams in the goat feed that i think they should have. Just watch how much to give them. You are saying that miniature goats dont need any at all. Just haY? Sometimes the hay isnt as good . I shouldnt feed my buck the alfafla hay right. But the does can have that right. Since you have 14 years raising goats:)

so..the pellets i have are fine then? i dont have any milking/preggo goats...should i mix a bag of the sweet feed in with my Dumor pellets? so they can have both feeds? this goat feeding stuff has ALWAYS confused me!...

I have a small group that is pygmies....10 and 11 months old. They other 2. Is pygmy mix..THEY tall then my knee. Pregnant. 1 and 2 and half year old.

My preggers mini does get 1 cup of high quality goat pellets twice a day. In the last month of pregnancy and throughout lactation, they also get 1-2 cups of alfalfa pellets. Always, always free choice grass hay. Up to 100 lb does do great on this amount.

Same here, we have it mixed, use chipped corn, easier for goats to digest and use very little, too much is dangerous.

You can worm preggo's with Cydectin, Safeguard, Dectomax, Ivermectin and Pancur- check w/ your vet for info on resistance. But this does sound lik upset tummies due to feed changes. Keep free choice baking soda out for them and if you run out of thier normal grain opt to let them go w/o and fast on hay for awhile until you can get the same stuff again
