Goat Thread!

Beautiful goats and dog! I'm not very familiar with the San Clemente breed, but I would love to learn more about them sometime!

How long have you had goats?

just a few years. I've had some in the past but with our property we where able to get more.
San Clemente's are a amazing and rare smaller breed.
Very hardy goats

Hi everyone! Well, this thread has been pretty inactive lately, but I got some fun news and an update for my goatie friends. :)

So, today we brought the goats to an open class market goat show, just to see how they'd do. Well they made it into the 60lb weight class. Elliot weighed 63.8 lbs and Boog weighed 64.4 pounds. Coming into the show we didn't even think they would place. Well, we were wrong. Boog placed 4th in the class and Elliot placed 5th. Elliot and I even got into Champion Drive (by mistake :p, but pretend you didn't read that. We didn't place in Champion Drive though)! So, there's some news.

Here's some updated pics of the two goaties:

Congratulations, they are both very good looking. Do you show goats often? I like to see them at the county fair.

I like the one on the top and in the back on the bottom. Very nice muscling. I assume thats the one that placed 4th?

Thanks! :) I don't show them a ton, just at the fair and then this show. I would love to get more into showing eventually though!
How are they shown, are they led or judged in a pen? I guess I have always looked at the goats at the fair but have never seen the goat show, so I'm unfamiliar with what you do.

This was my wether at the NJ State 4H Goat Show. He didn't due too well because he had been fed very poorly. But still, it was a very interesting learning experience judged by one of the best goat judges in the area.

We lead them around an arena and then the judge can interact with the goat as well as the exhibitor. :)

Well, I can't see his whole body but he likes fairly good. I think he could maybe use some more mass though. Did you qualify for state while at the fair?

Here's a full body pic from the same day...excuse the shave job, I didn't have any guards on my razor so I had to just freehand it. Yes, he is on the small side. His dam is really small. I think he was nice and thick, but not very wide or muscly. The judge said he should fill out, and he did to an extent. He was only 49 lbs
Here is him a couple months later
