So I got a call from an owner of one of my babies tonight, she was worried that something was wrong. He is about 4 1/2 months old he was a bottle baby and I just neutered(banded) him 2 weeks ago. He was nice size and starting to "mature."

We went over as his symptoms sounded emergency like and he came home with us. He has Urinary Calculi and he is straining but still dripping. He is still eating and drinking and over all just uncomfortable but not miserable at this point.

We gave him banamine, an anti-inflammatory and Ammonium chloride in pill form from the vet. While trying to examine his pizzle we found a stone....

Is there anything else we can do, he will be going to the vet tomorrow if there is no improvement tonight.

there is no question about it - he NEEDS to go to the vet

in the meantime, flip him over, externalise the penis and remove the urethral process with a clean sharp pair of scissors. I have posted a step by step guide to this previously, do a search.

Stones are generally one of two places - the urethral process or the sigmoid flexure. The former is resolved by the procedure above. The latter requires a perineal urethrostomy - a significantly more invasive and expensive procedure but the only thing that will guarrantee a cure. There are various drugs etc but in the majority of cases they are expensive and do not work.

Do a search for my username and urinary calculi. I posted extensive information a few weeks back when someone had a wether come down with UC - sorry I cant remember the name right at this point - I've had very little sleep for the last few days nursing a sick kid. I'm sorry I dont have time to write it all out again here - gotta keep going with these sick babies.

Good luck with him!

does anyone have any experiences good or bad with this type of sugery, as far as what I am reading surgery with UC has pretty limited sucess. I just want to make sure before I call the vet I know what is best for this little guy as well as giving his owner all the needed info before she has to make any decisions.

He is still bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning...
