Goats Are VERY Lethargic....One Can't Get Up.....Need Advice

It can be transmitted, but transmission isnt that common. The causes are many, factors are variable. You can have one goat in the herd come down with it, and no others, or you can have an outbreak.

Try to get him up. He may just be chillin'. Heat takes a toll on us all. I don't eat nearly as much in the summer as I do in the winter.

The first thing I would do is take the temperature. Goats are very prone to pneumonia. Also a shot of thiamine would be a good idea. Thiamine deficiency (polio) causes some bizzarre symptoms in ruminents. You have to get thiamine from the vet but you can get B comples from the feed store. You have to give a lot of it though.

NO! PM FlightsofFancy. We brought her doe back after the vet signed off on her. It IS curable. Regardless...that might not be what you're dealing with, but you do need to get a thermometer and watch this closely, start treating as if you have listeriosis because none of the treatments will have an ill effect if he doesn't.

OK....I will call the horse vet first thing in the AM and see if she can come....or if she WILL come. If not, she can give me a referral, I'm sure. There's nothing I can do tonight. My husband works the overnight shift in the City. I am unable to do much of anything myself....don't want to go into a diatribe.

Maybe I can call him and see if he can leave early. Our closest Tractor Supply is over 2.5 hours away, non rush-hour, over 100 miles away. We have nothing like Tractor Supply on Long Island. Crummy place to own livestock...for sure.

Thanks to everyone, again.

Keep us posted. I will tell you when our goat got it he started showing symptons one day and by the next day he was drooling and could not stand up, would not eat or drink and could not urinate or use the bathroom. So hopefully this is not what you are dealing with. Good luck! I will be thinking of you.
