Goats, Fences, and Lies - (long post)

It is also easy to forget that people who do not handle particular animals have no idea of what is normal behavior or handling of those animals.

Sorry this happened to you!

Actually, it kinda sounds like the problem that Family Services has. Too many people calling for no reason and taking them away from the calls that they need to go too. Just because you don't get invited to the neighbors bbq is a terrible reason to call animal control officers. While they are visiting you for bolonga, they could be going on a legimate call. I think if they come out and the call is obviously bogus, they need to get the person who called for harrassment and wasting the officers time. Maybe this would stop bogus calling but I doubt it.

Don't you people know anything ? Animals are only healthy and well cared for when they are safely confined to a cage being fed only food that comes from a bag. If they are exposed to sunlight they could die. And If they eat anything that is not from a bag with a picture of them on it they will be poisoned to death. Because some people actually care about animals.

Sorry you had a hard day. At least you had a cool animal control guy.

Thanks Nichole, I needed to hear that.

Oh, I really appreciated the boss of the guy who destroyed 20' of my fence stopping everything and repairing the fence, including the wood railing and new hog wire. He and a crew of his had my fence good as new by the middle of the afternoon.

I forgot to mention that I live across the street from the Sheriff Posse - and their gun range is adjacent to the public one. More police come up and down my road than anywhere else in the county.

ROcket-- My mom would get frequent calls about her pony being dead, too!! wouldn't it be funny if when people saw a dog laying in the sun they would call animal control because they thought it was dead? animals lay down to rest and they do look dead, but so do people when they are sleeping.

I am glad I haven't had any major problems with people "reporting" me so far. I've lived here on this farm for a year and a half now and haven't had animal control out here once yet. It's quite surprising actually. I'm within the city limits and have 4 dogs and 4 cats, a rabbit that runs loose in the barnyard, 2 geese and about 35 chickens. I'm just waiting for the day when they tell me I"m only going to be allowed 10 chickens or something like that. I'm protected by a grandfather clause, but that really doesn't mean a whole lot these days. My neighbor who was also grandfathered in had to get rid of the horses in his back yard because his next door neighbor was taking some kind of legal action against letting him have his horses. I think the whole world hates that nasty woman. thank goodness she moved away before I moved in.

I have a very large dog who has a large dog house that he simply will not use!! If I fill it with straw in the winter he goes in long enough to pull/push it all out. Frustrates me as I am trying to make him comfortable.
I would feel the same way if someone called the animal authorities on me. so sorry.

I've had the Animal Control here 3 times in the last year. Once for a barking dog. I pulled in right behind them as they came out on that call. Had my dogs in the car. So obviously, mine where not home to be barking.

Second and third time was for animals in distress, no feed, and no access to water.

After the third visit my neighbor was fined for lodging false complaints. One very annoyed Animal control officer by the third visit. I have a neighbor that moved to the country from the city and hates the fact that I have dirty, filthy, stinky farm animals(their words). They have been very vocal about the fact that they want me gone and are willing to go out of their way to make my life miserable. Good thing is they have been very quiet since being fined.

I really hope they get fed up and sell. I really wouldn't mind having the property so I could stink up more of the area.

One would think when you buy property designated for agriculture use you would find animals living in the area.

People do make honest mistakes, but I am finding with more cityots moving in around here there are more issues with animals.

kstaven,
I'm glad your neighbors were fined. I can't figure the people out that move out here from the city, and then want to turn the country into the city with regulations.
We live in a very rural township...no post office, no police department...not even a town square. But every year we have to foot the bill for zoning to be put on the election ballot. $3500. And every year it fails.
The city people want zoning. They don't want to see tractors sitting in fields, or smell cow poop...we have several dairy's around here.
Why would people move to an area, knowing it is agricultural and then form a group to take the people who have lived here for their lifetime to take their livelyhood away?
The only thing we can figure is that the rural areas with zoning, and all of the entrapments that comes along with it, costs more money to buy.
So instead of moving to the country gentlemen areas they buy land out here, where it is cheaper, and then try to change the entire community.
Sorry so long and off topic...this just really aggravates me.

I know how you feel - about 9 years ago I had to stop by the book store at school to make a purchase. I hadn't started school there yet so I parked in visiter parking. My german shepherd was in the back, with a collar and leash and tethered to a bolt. It was exactly 60 degrees out and sunny, the windows were half way down. I was literally gone 5 minutes.

I came back to an officer writing me a ticket for having an animal in my car when its hot and for having it on campus.

I said - I had to buy a book.

He said - dogs aren't allowed on campus.

I said - I was in the STORE, I'm not in class, I don't even GO here yet, I'm a visiter just stopping by to get a book.

It's too hot out to have a dog in the car.

It's 60 out and the windows are open sir.

The dog could get loose and bite someone.

She's tethered sir.

Here's your ticket mam.

Needless to say I challenged the ticket. The chief called me a month later and said - I swear he said this - Mam, this is going to be a big hassle for you and me both, why don't you just pay the fine?

I said I'd take my chances and he told me to expect a "court date", in what court I do not know - campus police don't have courts.

I never heard from them again.
